GRAD KORČULA

The island of Korcula is one of the Group of the Middle-Dalmatian Islands and takes the place of vision, both in surface and by the number of inhabitants. Covers an area of 276 km2 and is the sixth largest island in the Adriatic. The length of the island is 47 kilometres away, and the average width amounts to 5.3 km between Ripna, Teklina and bays up to 7.8 km between Ratak peninsula and Prigradica Bay. Korcula is separated from the Pelješac peninsula by a narrow channel which is the first of such kind, from South to North. The island of Korcula is dominated by the production of the channel, and it is because of these peculiarities was of particular importance for the maritime forces.
